Our physicians and surgeons are national leaders in their respective specialties and constantly strive for excellence by participating and presenting in national/international conferences, as well as conducting clinical and basic science research.
Our Neuro-Ophthalmology Fellowship educates the next generation of apable independent neuro-ophthalmologists. Our AUPO-approved program provides fellows with exposure to a wide range of clinical problems of varied complexity. The neuro-ophthalmology program provides an environment that fosters not only intellectual curiosity and collaboration but also a commitment to teaching and patient care.
What is Neuro-ophthalmology?
Neuro-ophthalmology is a subspecialty combining neurology and ophthalmology, focusing on diagnosing and treating visual problems related to the nervous system.
Neuro-ophthalmologists manage conditions like optic neuritis, optic neuropathy, papilledema, brain tumors, strokes, and disorders affecting eye movements and pupillary reflexes.
University of Iowa Health Care is home to the only neuro-ophthalmology team in the state. For more than 80 years, UI Health Care neuro-ophthalmology experts have led the field.
