Fellows spend approximately three days a week in clinic, evaluating both adult and pediatric patients. The remaining two days are dedicated to interpreting sleep studies under staff supervision and engaging in academic activities.

The block diagram illustrates the rotation schedule for our fellows throughout the year. It provides detailed information on the type, location, duration, and variety of rotations, ensuring a clear and comprehensive overview of the year's training opportunities.

Schedule (SAMPLE)

Here's a sample schedule that a fellow in our program might follow.

Clinic

In a typical week, fellows have 2.5 half days dedicated to adult outpatient sleep clinics and 2.5 half days to pediatric outpatient sleep clinics. Additionally, they gain valuable experience in Myotonic dystrophy clinics, which occur one half day per month. Our adult and pediatric continuity clinics provide hands-on exposure to CPAP, respiratory assist devices (RAD), and hypoglossal nerve stimulation, ensuring a comprehensive and enriching learning experience.

Lab

In a typical week, fellows have 4 half days in the lab reading routine polysomnograms (PSGs), home sleep apnea tests (HSATs), and multiple sleep latency testing (MSLT).

AASM Sleep Medicine In-Training Exam

The Sleep Medicine In-Training Exam (SMITE) is modeled on the American Board of Internal Medicine Sleep Medicine (ABIM) Blueprint, for the sleep subspecialty certification examination. The exam is intended to assist fellows in preparing for their sleep medicine board certification exam by providing an example of the scope and difficulty level of the exam and by helping identify candidates' knowledge gaps so they can better focus their board preparation. Learn more.

Our fellow trainees are given time to prepare for and take the SMITE in the Spring.
