Our fellowship within the Movement Disorders Division provides an option for one to two years of training. The one-year option provides a strong education in diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders for either future academic or community-based practice careers. The two-year option allows for additional training and development of research interests, mentored by our outstanding team of clinician-scientists.
Accreditation
There are no national certifying bodies for Movement Disorders Fellowships.
The ACGME granted non-standard training (NST) recognition to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. NST programs provide clinical training for foreign national physicians in advanced subspecialty programs for which there is no ACGME accreditation or American Board of Medical Specialties member board certification. Foreign national physicians receive J-1 visas sponsored by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) to enable their participation in NST programs. NST Recognition will be conferred upon Sponsoring Institutions only and will not be conferred upon individual NST programs.
Our Movement Disorders fellowship is a NST program. Additionally, it is listed as one of only 10 such fellowships in the American Academy of Neurology directory. Program training is directly associated with our ACGME (#180-18-21-039) accredited Neurology Residency program at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
